Environment / RoHS Compliant
All SII semiconductor products are lead-free as of May 11, 2005 bringing them in full compliance with the 6 currently banned substances under the EU RoHS directive.
* 6 banned substances in RoHS directive: Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)
All data sheets in SII-IC.COM are for lead-free products. (Except Designated Client Products/Phase-out and Obsolete products)
Background of Trend Toward Lead-Free Products
A large number of electronic parts are usually used in electronic devices. These electronic parts are mounted on circuit boards using solder that is an alloy of lead (Pb) and tin (Sn).
Since the lead contained in solder alloy is a harmful substance that risks being ingested by humans through the following route, initiatives
Note
to restrict the use of lead in electrical and electronic equipment have arisen, particularly in Europe.
Scrapping of electronic equipment -> Landfill disposal -> Contamination of ground water -> Consumption of ground water
- Note.
- An EU directive (RoHS directive) that prohibits the use of six chemical substances, including lead, in new electrical and electronic equipment from July 2006 has gone into effect.
Activities to Achieve Lead-Free Products at SII
In addition to lowering environmental risks caused by chemical substances based on
environmental activity policies
, SII has also been promoting the elimination of harmful substances.
